Using YouTube and my iPod Touch to facilitate product knowledge and sales excellence

These things are second-nature to me, but I often wonder how many managers, trainers and reps don’t realize just how much more effective they could be by using social media (YouTube in this case) to duplicate their message.
Just today I had a lunch meeting scheduled with a rep from a large distributor and one from a manufacturer.
The information was key and we were swamped, so I was the only one (that’s what bosses do) who could make it.
Why?

I want to support my team. They had to keep selling and working with clients, but I didn’t want them to miss this training opportunity.
YouTube to the rescue!
… and my iPod Touch with its fantastic video quality and ease-of-use.
I asked the questions my team would have asked. Of course, they’re a smart bunch, so I’m sure I missed some, but it’s still good.
Then, I published the video to our YouTube presence (yes, we’re all there, even though my main field is off-line).
Now, all of them are getting an email with a link to the video so they can get the answers they need for a product and system we rely on routinely.
This, my friends, is a fantastic use of social media for business and represents one of my favorite aspects – duplication of effort.
The rep, although good, won’t need to come back in right away because we have his PK recorded.
The comment section on YouTube will serve as an interactive focal point.

YouTube is the #2 search engine… how do you increase its effectiveness? Captions

CaptionTube is a service that allows you to add captions in multiple languages to your videos.
Great, you say, but how does that help ME?
The more text and information you can tag to anything online will increase its discoverability.
It’s quite simple.
With CaptionTube, you can leverage text since Google cannot search video for information… yet.
So, put captions on your video and make sure they are keyword-rich.
This enables viewers to read a transcript of the video.

How do you do it?
Go to CaptionTube.com and sign in.
If you have a Google account, this is what you will use for the sign-in process.
If not, it’s very easy to create one.
Just click this link to get started.
Then go back and complete the process with your shiny new Google ID.
You have two options for importing video.
1 – import a specific public YouTube video that can be embedded.
2 – or you can import a personally-uploaded video.

Over $40 million in sales so far… and do you want to know how to sell ME?

It’s embarassingly simple… you have my attention if you enhance my online presence.

Here is a live example I recorded with my Blackberry Curve in our Alexandria location. Hey, I’m a geek, so I’m not super-photogenic, but I have FUN working with my team.

Diana is a great rep who respects my time, asks if I’m free if we do not have an appointment.
Wayyy too many of the people who sell to me are not web-literate and they forget that it’s my primary language (although I speak fluent Spanish and German, as well as conversational Farsi), but she did her best… and it worked. 
This video should be seen by everyone who wants to sell to me and my team.
Tell me I’ll get positioning on your main corporate site (and it better be a quality site) and you have my attention. Of course, if your product is crap or your support stinks, you’ll have a lot of work to do.
Believe me, I’ll check and give advice because I take this incredibly seriously.
